Glen Murdoch, Dartish

Engaging the Video generation with Dartfish ... Emmy award winning software used on Channel 9
In 2000 Glen Murdoch won ‘PE teacher of the year’ in county Sussex UK, for his innovative use of technology in PE and sport programs. The basis of that technology was utilising video analysis software as a feedback tool for his students. This session will introduce the Dartfish video analysis program to attendees and give examples of students work from Australia across the globe. 20% of all Australian secondary schools now use video analysis software and Dartfish is leading the way in both functionality, flexibility and price. Dartfish software is now commonly used in PE, Sport, Drama, Maths, Science, Art, Dance, English and Teacher training. The Dartfish capture functionality is perfect for immediate feedback, or capturing on delay – decide to capture events after you have seen them! The analyser measures and tracks angles, enables comparison with side by side and overlayed images,  measures speed, time, acceleration, creates strobe images, tracks balls with ball tail technology and you can even import heart rate data and lay it over the video! The tagging module allows easy ‘tagging’ of games, lessons, sporting events or plays and you will also be introduced to the brand new Dartfish TV website – our own video casting site that is fully functional with the Dartfish software!
Come along and try something truly unique in the software world.

All attendees will need to download a trial copy of our software from the Dartfish website

Creating and assessing interactive lessons using Fuse Creator and Qwizdom.
Presenter: Michael Puddy ITeach Interactive
Co presenters: Andy Penman, Damien Meunier
So you want to deliver an engaging flash based lesson using your interactive whiteboard and then want your students to continue with that lesson at their laptops or personal computers? You'd like software that tracks the students? responses and prepares reports detailing your students? progress? And you'd like software that sends your students on differing difficulty pathways depending on their aptitude with the set tasks? RM?s Fuse Creator creates high-quality, interactive activities for your students using a simple platform, which you can use over and over on your interactive whiteboard, school or personal computers, websites and VLEs. Fuse Creator is made by the same company that created Easiteach.Qwizdom is the leading student response system within Victorian schools
Qwizdom can be used in a variety of ways within your classroom to engage, entertain but most importantly assess your students. In this session we are going to show the enormous benefits of using the Qwizdom student response system when revising for NAPLAN. Qwizdom allows your students to work through revision questions at their own pace. The beauty of the program is that all data being inputted is being saved and can be accessed instantly throughout the session or at the conclusion of the session in either spreadsheet or graph formats- saving teachers hours in marking time.

Presentation 45 minutes - starting at 12.10pm
Nextbyte and Apple: Digital Education Revolution: Forward Thinking 1:1
David Patrao, Guest presenter

Please join Nextbyte and Apple for this must hear/see/feel session - it'll be the talk of the conference!
Schools across Australia are rapidly embracing technology as the most important teaching tool on campus. The direction for technology in many schools over the next few years is the 1:1 notebook program (that is one student to one computer) The implications of implementing a 1:1 notebook program are numerous. During this session, we will present a variety of case studies that highlight implementation methodology, curriculum development and IT considerations. You will hear commentary from staff, students, parents and principals on the success their schools have enjoyed utilising the Apple hardware and software platform and the results that follow.
There will be an opportunity to pose questions to our panel of 1:1 notebook programme experts. This session will assist in answering questions regarding the implementation of the 1:1 vision and adapting it to specific curriculum, schools and communities. This is indeed an opportunity to sort the current facts from many of the myths that exist surrounding this powerful learning innovation and the way it will change and enhance the relationships between the school, students, parents and the wider community.

"How we got our unreliable & problem-plagued IT system to work properly!"
The lack of reliability and poor performance of the school IT infrastructure and environment is often a major barrier for schools committed to using technology to improve educational outcomes - and a source of great frustration for ICT Co-ordinators, teachers and staff. In this presentation, Williamstown North Primary School Principal, Neil Sproal, explains how they took a strategic approach to resolving this problem, quickly and cost-effectively, and the subsequent benefits the school has gained from implementing Studytech's managed operating environment solution. Tim Stolk, Technical Director at Studytech provides an easy- to-understand explanation of what a managed operating environment is and how it works.

Preparing for the digital classroom
The traditional classroom is being revolutionized throughout the world.  Laptops, iPods, electronic whiteboards, and other devices are being used to access and manipulate the digital content in the school and in the internet.  However, the challenge has been and will continue to be providing economical access to this data.  Hardwiring classrooms is no longer an option since eLearning can take place anywhere:  in classrooms, hallways, or common areas.  Wireless access is the only medium that provides this capability.  Yet, it is not pervasive because of the performance limitations.  Xirrus has introduced a multi-radio Array that provides from 4 to 24 radios to increase the bandwidth in the digital learning environment.  This presentation will highlight the merits of a distributed Array technology and why it merits serious consideration in your eLearning planning process. Actual case studies in the State of Victoria will be presented and discussed.

Lab A

Presentation 45 minutes - starting at 12.10pm

Trade Presentation: Espire: Virtual Desktops – Making 1:1 computing a reality in schools
Presenter: John Robinson, Country Manager
Schools have tight budgets yet they need to provide more computer access on campus to prepare students for the digital age. Increasingly, educators are turning to NComputing as a solution. The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact:- Today’s computers are so powerful that most applications use only a fraction of the computer’s capacity. Virtual desktops tap the unused capacity in a standard PC so that it can be simultaneously shared. Instead of buying a computer for every student, you connect each student’s monitor, keyboard and mouse to a small, durable and inexpensive access device. The access device connects to the shared PC. John Robinson shares how this has helped schools all over the world change the way they teach.

Lab B Presentation 45 minutes - starting at 12.10pm

Trade Presentation: Espire:
A case study of changing the server and network storage in a large Secondary College
Presenter: Mathew Trethewey, IT Administration, Berwick Secondary College
In this very practical session, Mathew will outline the previously existing school server architecture, the inherent problems associated with this, and the planning for a change to a virtualized environment. This has now been completed. Hear from a person who analyzed the problems and came up with a solution.
