The aim for the workshop is to establish links between software designed for use by children in the Early Years and the Numeracy/Mathematics curriculum. You will be encouraged to connect parts of the curriculum with what the software offers to young learners. The software available for this workshop includes the Infant Video Toolkit, 2Calculate and 2Do it yourself.

You can count on Kahootz 3.0!

Presenter: Maggie Garrard Education Officer Australian Children's Television Foundation
21st century teaching resources should reflect 21st century learning styles. The creation, access and availability of multiple digital learning objects and contemporary software make it imperative for teachers to engage with new pedagogy that utilises these resources to the fullest extent. Students demand more interactive learning opportunities and hands-on activities that use technology to create interesting and authentic avenues for exploring information.
This workshop explores how KAHOOTZ 3.0 can provide educators with a 3D digital animation program that can cater for student’s diverse contemporary learning needs, styles and paces. Participants will be shown how this program can help to create an equitable learning environment whereby students can direct their own learning, challenge themselves and further develop their skills and understanding of thinking processes, authoring, critical analysis, and creative composition. The workshop will also explore how Kahootz can also provide rich opportunities in numeracy for shape recognition, perspective, and the development of interactive games and quizzes.

2.30 - 3.30
It adds up! Very simple numeracy tasks in excel for the Early Years.

Nick Reynolds, University of Melbourne
In this session, we’ll use your excel on your computer to create a very simple colourful template which looks great for early years students yet can be used in many ways to achieve outcomes in your numeracy program. We will develop simple formulae that will allow you to confidently produce variations specific for your own needs. Learn to create colourful graphs and charts.
We will finish by changing the screen view so that students are not distracted by unwanted clutter and that the cells are large and clear. This is an under-utilised resource that is found on every computer. After this session you will have an new appreciation of this software!
PLEASE NOTE: Ensure that you have Excel on your laptop
