SCRATCH - An exciting workshop for Upper Primary Teachers Grades 4,5,6
13/3/2009
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) the inventors of LOGO have come up with new software SCRATCH which steps into the gap left by LOGO. Scratch is fully scripted programming which allows allows children to produce their own multimedia events, games, interactive art and much more. This software differs from earlier programming languages in two important ways. Firstly the language elements are contained in jigsaw-type pieces which slot together to form the script, no more error of syntax. Secondly the software is FREE! Teachers will receive a resources pack including the software and the day will provide an excellent chance to become familiar with the programming language and develop their own games and animations. Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, games, music, and animations and share your creations on the Web.

Interactive Whiteboard use and pedagogy in the Middle Years - Years 4 - 9
30/3/2009
Are you a teacher in the Middle Years with an interactive Whiteboard but thinking there must be more to it than being just a big screen? Besides text recognition and playing DVD’s can you nominate more than five key features of the IWB that you couldn’t live without? Are your students becoming blasé about the “wow” aspects of the board? Is the IWB being used by students as well as you the teacher? Are you using the IWB to bring the world of the internet into the classroom? Did you know that there are now well defined stages of IWB adoption? If you are looking for answers to these and a host of other questions about how to give your classroom program a makeover through strategic use of the IWB then this day long program is just for you. As well as providing hands-on experiences across a range of subject areas this practical program will be supported by a wiki that will contain movies, links and other support material discussed on the day, (being a wiki, the site will also enable us to add responses to issues that arrive on and after the day). Participants should bring their laptops with the IWB software that they use in the school installed, or, if not applicable, then you will be assisted with software for the day.

Middle Years:Websites up and running in a day using Dreamweaver
31/3/2009
Tap into the power of templates. Get your students ready to develop professional sites within a few lessons. Explore the power of online publishing. We want to get a website up and running, yet we are short of time. Our presenter, Emad has devised a strategy with his Middle Years classes based on a series of shareware templates using Dreamweaver and Photoshop as the applications to put the website together. (A trial version of Dreamweaver and Photoshop can be downloaded from the Adobe website) In this very practically focused professional learning day, you will join Emad in the morning to construct the framework of your website, and in the afternoon complete the development of your site specific to the needs of your class or school. Other templates will also be explored which can form the foundations of a website using Photoshop, Flash or Frontpage. The techniques learned during the day can be taken directly back to your classroom. A practical, curriculum focused, hands-on and enjoyable day! Bring your own laptop and any school based resources that could be used in your site. Especially useful for teachers of Years 6 -10.
