ACCE Professional Associate Structure

Many members may not be aware that the ICTEV is an affiliated organisation with the ACCE (Australian Council for Computers in Education, www.acce.edu.au). The ACCE has some strategic partnerships and memberships which add connections for CEG members and enable the ACCE to promote learning technologies and the work of Australian CEGs internationally and form partnerships for projects and initiatives. One such initiative is the Professional Associate status that members of ICTEV can take advantage off.

Members of ICTEV are eligible for the ACCE Professional Associate structure. The ACCE has thus adopted a three level professional associate structure to recognise the contributions of CEG members to computer education activities and to encourage CEG members to proudly use their ACCE associate level as professional signatures at any time.

Three level in the Professional Associate structure

1. ACCE Associate; which can be used automatically as the professional signature for current members of computer education groups. All current individual members of ICTEV will automatically be granted ACCE Associate status and be entitled to use ACCE Associate in their professional signatures. This does not extend to teachers who are not personal members of the ICTEV, whether or not their schools or organisational sections are institiutional members of ICTEV.

2. ACCE Professional Associate; is awarded by ICTEV, according to ACCE policy, to current members who demonstrate commitment to computer education activities and knowledge through the ICTEV and ACCE structures. To qualify for this professional status level, ACCE associates are required to show an active involvement in ICTEV or in the national association, and demonstrate a commitment to the aims and objectives of ACCE by taking a leadership role in promoting and supporting the use of learning technology in Australian educational communities.

ACCE Professional Associate requires:
- Current personal ICTEV membership.
- Significant contirubtion to ICTEV or ACCE events, publications, management teams or working parties within the last year.
- A points system for contributions will be adopted by ICTEV in approving applications for ACCE Professional Associate, 20 points per year.

Contribution to an ICTEV newsletter / journal 10 points
Contribution to online communities 10 points
Presentation at an ICTEV conference 10 points
Membership of the conference working party 10 points
Organising professional development 10 points
Delivery of professional development 10 points
Member of a management committee 10 points
Significant contribution to ICTEV or ACCE management 10 points

To obtain ACCE Professional Associate, educators will be required contact to ICTEV to complete an application process. Should the application be successful, educators will receive an ACCE Professional Associate certificate and be entitled to use the title ACCE Professional Associate in their professional signature. ACCE Professional Associate registrations must be renewed every year when educators renew membership or apply for membership. The ICTEV will maintain a register and include a demographic summary in state reports to the ACCE Board.

3. ACCE Fellow; which will be awarded occasionally to outstanding ICTEV members who significantly contribute to national computer education activities and knowedge or who have a significant history of leadership roles in CEGs and ACCE. A Fellow would be selected where the applicant has a current membership of a CEG and satisfies one of the following criteria:
- A long history of outstanding contributions or continuous service to ACCE
- A major contribution of national significance consistent with the purposes of ACCE, as stated in the ACCE rules.

A person given an ACCE Fellow may use the title ACCE Fellow in their professional signature. There is no time limit on the use of this signature but it must state in the year in which ACCE Fellow was awarded: for example, ACCE Fellow 2001. The Board of ACCE will determine if a person may be awarded a fellow status. The Board may submit an application at the AGM meeting of ACCE. ICTEV may ask its representative to present an application from a CEG management team.
