Eastern Primary School Study Tour

We will visit three schools who are demonstrating excellence and innovation in using ICT to enhance the teaching and learning practices at their schools.

Format of the study tour

The format of the study tour is to visit three schools in one day, providing a great opportunity to join with fellow teachers, share ideas and see what other schools do. They are days for observation and provide the opportunity to discuss the various approaches being used with ICT in the classroom to achieve exciting outcomes in student performance.

The three schools will provide descriptions of the planning that went into its successful implementation in their presentations on the tour. Each school takes a varying pathway in the integration of ICT into the curriculum which provides participants with choices and alternatives to consider for their own situations.

9am Ringwood North Primary School
Hosts: Shirley Allison Assitant Principal and Nic Burley 5/6 Teacher

In 2010 Ringwood North Primary were selected to participate in the DEECD iPads For Learning research trials (http://www.ipadsforeducation.vic.edu.au/ipad-education-case-studies/5-ringwood-north-primary-school). Their involvement gave them opportunity to develop a fantastic 1:1 iPad program focused on the Challenge Based Learning model. Challenge based learning is a collaborative learning experience in which teachers and students work together to learn about compelling issues, propose solutions to real problems, and take action. At RNPS we'll see Challenge Based learning in action click here for examples of Ringwood's North Primary School's inspirational work using the challenge based learning model.

11am Croydon Hills Primary School
Host: Graeme Cauldry, Principal

Croydon Hills has a long history of innovation in student focused use of ICT.  We are a school of a little over 500 students and have been an Apple school all the way through.  We currently have a mix of this equipment in each classroom:  4+ classroom desktops or MacBooks, 6 iPads and an interactive Data Panel.  We have a shared computer lab with 25 Desktop Macs.  We commenced 2012 with a one2one iPad Program for our Year 5 & 6 students.  It was extremely well supported by our parent community with a greater than 95% take-up.  The program was a terrific success thanks the passion and skill of our staff.

On the tour will show the senior and middle school programs in operation and happily answer any questions. For information on Croydon Hills Primary School's 1:1 Ipad Program click here. Croydon Hills have also recently released their own application which can be viewed here.
