ICT in Education journal (formerly 3Com) is published as a resource for all educators who are interested in the effective use of information communication technologies for teaching and learning. It supports teachers of all curriculum areas who are involved at all levels of education from pre-school to primary and secondary education. The journal is published by ICT in Education Victoria.
The editors of this journal welcome contributions from classroom teachers and other eductors in the form of articles, reports of school-based projects or research.
What are you doing with ICT in your classroom?
We need stories of and by teachers who have found ways to use learning technologies to enhance their teaching. We have deliberately called them stories because they are for sharing with other teachers, and we want the readers of our journal to enjoy them!
Writing your story for other teachers
What we want in your story
Your story will contain some of these elements:
* What learning technologies you and your class used for the teaching and learning
* Setting details (student ages, type of school, level of technology used and available etc.)
* What the students achieved. (This might be in the form of general comments or case studies of individual students, and it should include some interesting examples, including pictures or screen captures if available).
* How the technology enhanced the learning of the students or, how the teaching / learning enhanced the efficient use of the technology.
* How others can share your experiences. (This might include suggestions on how others might develop your ideas in their own classrooms. It might include an offer to host visits from others, or perhaps just your email address so that others can contact you.
* If special equipment, or particular software is described, you should give readers clues or references on how it can be obtained and used.
* What references, if any, would you recommend readers to follow up. (These might include readings, websites, software applications).
Planning your story
there is no set way of organising your story. We don't need an abstract. It is, however a good idea to have a structure in mind before you write such as:
* Introduction
* Setting
* Using the technology
* Any results in the form of student outcomes or your observations of the way the technologies helped your teaching and / or the learning of the students
* Implications or importance of this to others
* Brief concluding remarks
* References and contacts
Length
ICT in Education has no set policy on length of stories. Some successful stories can be told in a few hundred words. Others might by 3,000 words. However, the editor reserves the right to shorten very long stories if room is limited.
Pictures
We look forward to receiving photos, screen shots, graphics, scans and any other visual material to enhance your work. They will be reproduced in black and white.
Your photo
When you submit a story please attach a photo of yourself and a short introduction (for example where you work, what role you have, how long you have been there, what you are like in your ICT teaching, what you are interested in etc.)
If you have research to report, by all means write a summary story for ICT in Education.
BUT
also send your actual research report (through ICTEV) as a paper, to Australian Education Computing.
